It went together in your photos about how I suspected it would. I'll see if I can get some more pics tomorrow in the light. Used the double ended studs from the ZJ trailer hitch for ease of install. Cut the mounting ears off and welded some angle to it to mount it. I installed a ZJ tank in my 87 (along with the engine/transmission). Mostly I've just welded stuff (and not very well at that!) on my 2001 XJ. as far as fitment it's the same as a late model XJ tank, the width between the rails for the entire setup is a direct fit to the rear rails on the early waggie.Īnybody with details on how to make this swap work are encouraged to post up, I'm a total newbie when it comes to this kind of mod. I'll be diving into some research for fuel pressure, gauge setup, etc. It's going on my 1963 wagoneer with Ford 240 six swap, carbureted. Range quoted above is calculated on 16MPG.Ĭlick on "MORE PICTURES" to see more detailed photos.Troopthrowback wrote:I picked up a zj tank (23gallons, poly, with steel skid, receiver hitch, and straps) locally and ready to get started with the install. This may or may not work with your factory fuel gauge in the instrument cluster. You may need to upgrade to the newer style pump module. Some older model Jeep XJ's had the fuel pump module in the front of the tank.Aftermarket trac bar mounts may need to be modified, BUT if your lift kit and trac bar mount works with your stock tank, it will work with our gas tank, too. However, we know customers that have fit this tank with Ford 9" and Dana 60 rear axles, too. We have only checked this tank to fit with a Dana 35 or 44 rear axles in the stock location ( lift kits are OK).Includes two new factory Mopar roll over / vent valves.Ground clearance is the same as stock or slightly lower depending on the model year Jeep you have.Works with the factory emissions and other related equipment so you will not get any check engine lights or other engine computer issues.Uses the newer style stock Jeep XJ fuel module (pump/sending unit) 1997-2001.Multiple internal baffles to reduce fuel movement & keep fuel near the pick up.Stainless steel straps hold the tank in the skid plate. There is a foam liner in-between the tank and skid plate.Includes a heavy duty 3/16" thick Skid Plate.Tank is made of 1/8" thick Aluminum alloy and TIG welded.
